This coming Saturday the 3rd of November 2018, we are hosting an event dubbed YouthMax 2018 whose theme is Failing Forward. I figured that it would have done a disservice if I don’t speak about my failures openly. I will speak more on failure on Saturday but not everyone will be able to attend so I figured, I’d send out on an email on this.

When I decided to resign and pursue my purpose I really did not know how my life would pan out nor did I have answers to the many questions my near and dear one’s asked me. All I was certain about is that I wanted to be the change that I want to see. I wanted to put myself out there and be counted for something. I believed that since my product is good, speaks to the soul and is life changing, everyone would want a piece of it. And indeed, what I offer is truly transformational, but it requires a lot of heart. It is not for the faint hearted!

In the time I have been transforming leaders from the inside out, I have received more No’s than Yes. I have spoken to many people who say – this is great but it is not for me, not now, your head is in the clouds, this can’t work, some are too afraid to open up etc. Let me tell you, the first time I was told no, to my face, I almost collapsed because it hit me so hard. The pain was almost unbearable. I could not breathe. I thought and at the time believed that it was me they were rejecting. I was so caught up with myself. I have had to go through this a number of times and to many, it seems like foolishness. But the amount of growth I have experienced since is profound. I have been called all sorts of names signifying that I have my head in the clouds but what they don’t know is that my feet are rooted firmly on Solid Ground!

One thing that I had promised myself right from the out-set is that giving up is not an option. I don’t have a plan B and therefore this is my ride or die. And when you don’t have a plan B, you have to ensure that plan A works. Many people have offered me many things – options and ways to do what I do (and they mean well) and I have closely evaluated their offers, but I have chosen to remain focussed on my goal. They say it is too hard and the more they say that, the more I want to prove that it can and will be done! The reasons behind my conviction I am unable to exhaust in this newsletter but I will give you some pointers on how to rise up from the failurethat we ALL have to go through in order to succeed.

1.	Experience the set-back. Allow yourself to feel the pain and even allow the emotions that come with it to come to the fore. Cry, scream and do what you need to.

Make peace with it. How do you make peace with it, you ask? Firstly, understand that this is not a reflection of who you are and that it is not you who has been rejected. Secondly, take time and journal the experience and be very honest with yourself about the experience. If you don’t do this, you will go about your life thinking that everyone does not “like” you simply because they refused to buy what you are selling!

Give up your need to be liked. The very qualities that make you likable to one person are the exact same qualities that will make you unlikable to another person. Start asking yourself questions like what automatic negative thoughts am I having? What do these thoughts mean to me? What could I still do if they didn’t like me? Why do I want them to like me so badly? What drives me? Of course this is not a gate-pass to be a complete jerk. Be real and be yourself.

Learn the lesson. Look for those people who are in your inner circle and share this
experience with them. Separate the facts from the emotions and then take note of what the TRUTH really is. Perhaps you are not a fit for the person, perhaps this is not meant to be, am I sure about what I want to achieve, perhaps your approach was wrong but all in all, tear apart the experience and get the learning.

Try again: I cannot over-emphasize this. Winners never lose and they keep trying until they make sure they have achieved that which they set out to achieve, they look at their situation from various angles, enlist all the help they can get and then try again, and again and again and again and again…..
